Silent Failure Risk
Without monitoring, a backup failure could go unnoticed for 7 days. You'd only discover it when you need to restore – too late.
Don't guess. Know instantly.

CronMonitor alerts you within seconds when your backup fails. Reduce your blind window from 7 days to 60 seconds.

Understanding Backup Risk

What is RPO?

Recovery Point Objective (RPO) is the maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time. If your RPO is 24 hours, you can afford to lose up to 24 hours of data. Your backup frequency should match or exceed your RPO requirement.

What is Blind Window?

A blind window is the period during which a backup failure goes undetected. Without monitoring, this equals your retention period – you won't know your backup failed until you need to restore and find no valid backups.

Why Backups Fail Silently

  • Disk space fills up unexpectedly
  • Permission changes after system updates
  • Network timeouts to remote storage
  • Database locks during backup window
  • Expired credentials or API keys

How to Reduce Risk

  • Increase backup frequency to reduce max data loss
  • Extend retention for more recovery points
  • Implement monitoring to eliminate blind windows
  • Test restores regularly (at least monthly)
  • Use 3-2-1 backup strategy
